Di una sconosciuta

Per andare dal dentista devo fare prima un tratto di strada a piedi, poi prendere la metro, fare qualche fermata, scendere a Lima, e fare un altro tratto di strada a piedi. A me è sempre piaciuto…

Change AND Anchors

Change AND Anchors. A performance at Color Field Denver. This piece was a collaboration between myself and a dear friend and incredible artist, Sarah Palmeri.

Sarah created this beautiful piece of public art and it was an honor to enter into it as a space for performance.

I hope that you’ll watch this video and take from it what you need. There is room for you to participate and create your own narratives. I will also give you a little window into what I was processing through this piece.

There was so much purpose and identity in the space itself; it was something that existed before I arrived. My movement came as a response to my environment. What is around me? What does it mean to me? How do I choose to respond? These were the questions that carried me through this process. In the space I saw change. I saw a drained pond that had been repurposed, brought back to life with Sarah’s vibrant colors. I saw stakes coming out of the ground, none of them quite perfectly vertical, as if existing in the natural elements requires a little bowing and partnership with the wind and shifting earth. I saw colors that changed depending on where one stood. These all generated meaning for me, but for now I’ll leave it open to interpretation.

The beauty of the space was not lost on me either. I was reminded that in the midst of change and being off balance, beauty can be steadying and centering.

We are experiencing a lot of change right now. I hope for myself that as I go forward in these times that I will remember how important beauty is as healing, and when I feel unsteady, I hope I will trust myself to yield and continue to move. I hope these things for you too. And I hope this performance can be reminder of that.
