Corner Lots Baseball

The importance of having a hobby.

In a messed up world I need a hobby. Something that nourishes my body and soul and helps me to forget the troubles of the world. People call it a big lift.

I like baseball. A good sport that helps me forget about the problems of the world momentarily.

Baseball is practical. It doesn’t cost much to gather with my friends on a corner lot and have some fun. In blue jeans, sport shirt, and tennis shoes, the usual stuff we wear that’s laying around the house. Add some cardboard bases, a splintered bat, and tattered baseball and I’m ready to go.

But wait, it’s winter. No one likes to play baseball outside in the winter time. Snow and cold weather prohibits enjoining this great American pastime. What will I do to keep my sanity?

For some in door activity I created a baseball board game. With some baseball players from a cereal box top, a spinner, and a board, I improvised winter baseball. Who says you can’t play baseball in the winter time?

Baseball is never far away from a good book or movie. My favorite is Robert Redford in The Natural. The farm boy whom loved baseball and in spite of all odds, achieved his goal to play ball.

I was a better person because I had a hobby. What do you do with your spare time? Are you feeding your body and soul?
