Golf is the Greatest Sport in the World

Of all of the sports that I have played throughout the course of my life, none of them has consumed me quite like golf. It’s a perfect mixture of strategy, mental toughness, and physical ability. I am certain that I would not be the person that I am today had I have never picked up a club and started playing this beautifully maddening game. Golf taught me respect, patience, sportsmanship, and many other values that I still hold to this day. I was very fortunate to have golf growing up. The friendships that I have made, acquaintances, connections, are nearly all attributed to golf. The many lifelong friendships that I made while golfing is something that I wouldn’t trade for anything.

Another beauty that golf offers; the longevity of the sport. I know people that have played well into their 90’s. It allows you to keep friendships through the sharing of a mutual passion that can last a lifetime. As a recently graduated business major with very little relevant work experience under my belt, it was a mutual love for the game that helped me land a good job out of college. Literally, the interview was about 2 minutes of basic interview questions followed by a 40-minute conversation about golf, and it landed me a pretty sweet job. It’s no secret that success in today’s crazy world is a lot about who you know, and if you’re like me you didn’t come from a family with a ton of connections.

Golf is definitely one of the best ways to meet new people. Good people. In my opinion, attending countless networking events would still not compare to playing one round with someone. You get to really know people. What they do. What their passions are. It allows you to bond on a personal level that’s more difficult to reach in a professional setting. You can peel back the bullshit and get to know the real them. Once you finally peel back the layers of bullshit and really get to know someone, that is when jobs are landed, sales are made, deals are finalized, and friendships are born.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, it’s pretty fun to play too.
